Hotel 1959

Restaurant

The restaurant concept “MOD Men” draws inspiration from the MOD youth subculture, which originated in London in the late 1950s. It was characterised by a love of modern Jazz and R&B music as well as an interest in fashion. The term “MOD” is short for “modernist” and refers to a style that emerged in the late 1960s. My concept focuses primarily on the fashion of young men which was characterised by a minimalistic aesthetic, with a focus on clean lines and geometric shapes. Signature items of clothing were smart suit trousers, often in a wool material, as well as tweed or solid coloured button up jackets. To translate this look into a space I focused on incorporating masculine colours such as browns and greens as well as shades of rust to create a cosiness in a large space. Since this is a five star hotel it was important to add elements of luxury such as gold finishes, terrazzo tiling, soft leathers and glass walls for privacy.
