The Jewel Hotel
My brief for this project was to design two spaces for a new five-star hotel, located in Picadilly, Westminster, London, opposite the Ritz Hotel. Given the location the context of this project is important when developing the concepts for the interior design. For my concept I chose the theme of ‘1930s Hollywood Glamour’ because I liked the luxury and sophistication that this created, which is especially fitting for a five-star restaurant. The hotel is situated in a unique part of London which will attract a to certain type of customer, the client is aiming to target international tourists and business people visiting the city so this was very important when forming my client profile. I named it ‘The Jewel Hotel’ because it sounds luxurious and opulent which is the feeling I wanted the hotel to have.
I was able to select the spaces I wanted to design form a list of options, these included a reception/ lobby, bar/ lounge, family room, restaurant, pool/ spa or master suite. After seeing the floor plans for each space, I decided to design the master suite and bar/ lounge. I liked the idea of designing a relaxed and comfortable bar space where people could relax and unwind after a busy work day if they are travelling for work or enjoy some drinks with friends if they are travelling for pleasure. The large space allowed me to play around with various seating types ensuring there is something for everyone to feel comfortable.
Since this was a professional project, I was required to create a client booklet which outlined all the key information regarding the design of the space, materials and finishes used, furniture and accessories required as well as the technical information such as the floor plans, elevations and lighting layouts. This is so that the client knows exactly what the proposed design would look like and allows them to make any necessary last-minute changes before the design can be approved.
