Aquatic Show Home
This project was carried out in my first year of University. It required me to select two contrasting fashion designers collections to base my two show home interior design proposals on, in collaboration with Linden Homes, designing specifically for their Finchman House. The space I redesigned was the downstairs of the home which consisted of a small hallway with a toilet, an open-plan kitchen, dining, and lounge.
based on Elie Saab’s 2019 Spring/Summer collection which was designed to celebrate the magic of femininity with a focus on sea life. The collection was inspired by the underwater flora of the Caribbean. It featured a vibrant, aquatic colour palette made up of various shades of pink, purple, coral, and blue as well as accents of red, all on a neutral base of warm champagne, cream, and gold. Coral like branches of lace and sequins decorates the bodices of dresses, bodysuits, and suit jackets. Aquatic inspired motifs are used as all over patterns on tulle dresses with organic necklines. Luxury fabrics such as organza and satin are manipulated to create ripples and folds which imitate the forms of coral reefs, underwater plants, and water currents. The collection also featured floor length figure hugging mermaid silhouettes with cut out details.
The underwater theme was represented in various details of my design such as the fish scale-shaped tiles used for the backslash in the kitchen, shell-shaped accent chair, cabinet handles with a shell design, and coral-shaped lighting fixtures throughout the space. Other carefully thought through aspects included the use of pale wood flooring to imitate the look of sand on the sea floor, and the warm glow of lighting around the ceiling represents the way the sun bounces off the surface of the water creating a glowing effect. I also created three bespoke surface designs specifically tailored to fit this space, click the surface design button to find out more.
The 3D model was created using SketchUp Pro and the renders were created using Twilight.

Client Lifestyle Board
Creating a client lifestyle board allows me to analyse the needs of the client. What do they require in the space? How should it function? What is more and less important to them, and how can I make their lives easier by using clever design within the space? The clients that I was designing this living and dining space for were a young professional couple, who enjoyed entertaining and cooking, so I ensured that my design allows for them to host comfortably and easily interact with their guests from the kitchen by using an open floor plan.
Clinet Aesthetic Board
The client aesthetic board allows me to understand the likes and dislikes of the customers to ensure the space is one they feel comfortable in. In the Aquatic scheme I implemented the colourful kitchen cabinets, patterned wallpaper and gold accents throughout the space to create a design to their taste.

This collection was the inspiration for this Aquatic concept. It's the Elie Saab Spring/Summer 2019 collection which focuses on very soft feminine silhouettes and beautiful pastel colours. It takes inspiration from underwater flora and fauna to create unique decorative elements on the garments such as coral motifs made from sequins, which glisten in the light. I found this to be a very eye catching and unique collection. The use of colour really spoke to me, and I felt that I could use it to inspire a very fun and colourful interior. However, being careful not to make it too childlike I needed to incorporate elements that made it feel more sophisticated to contrast with the playful tones.

Here are some images I used to help me figure out what the space could incorporate and what elements would help create the aquatic scheme I was aiming to achieve. I wanted to incorporate lots of colourful elements, and this helped me get the balance correct so that one did not overwhelm the space and they were all evenly distributed throughout. I wanted larger pieces of furniture to be the focal points within the space such as a uniquely shaped armchair or colourful table. I looked at adding an interesting tile for the backsplash in the kitchen as well as the unique side lamp. This board was an important visual aid that helped to keep me on track throughout the designing process.
