Surface Design Development -

Aquatic 1

This page shows my colour experimentation which led me to my final coral surface design. I started by having a white background and filling the coral shapes with a solid colour as its the corals in a reefs that are brightly coloured not the water around them. However I felt that this looked blocky and flat. So I explored changing the colour of the background instead, my favourite was the pale blue because it looks like water. I found that the solid backgrounds just weren’t interesting enough so instead I explored changing the outline of the corals which allowed me to add more colours to the design which made it more interesting and fun. Having no fill on the corals also made the design visually a lot lighter which I much preferred. I then also explored creating textured watercolour corals sticking to a colour scheme of orange and purple as I liked the way these complemented each other. I wanted to create a texture which accurately represented the real texture of corals to bring the design to life.
