Art Deco Final Surface Designs
These designs were based on the Gucci Spring/ Summer 2012 collection which was influenced by the Art Deco period of the 1920’s. Inspired by architectural shapes, in particular the New York skyscrapers built in the 1920’s. The colour palette features white, black, bronze, and gold, with accents of emerald green and burnt orange. An interesting mix of patterns, from angular geometric, abstract or stripes, to more organic animal prints. Black and gold cocktail dresses resemble the flapper style of the 1920’s. Fringing was used to add interest and movement to straight silhouetted knee length dresses. Lots of flowing fabric n the bottoms of dresses. Elements of laser cut leather to imitate fringing on dresses. Trousers are high waisted with front pleats to add shape, some have a single stripe down the side of the leg. Jackets were short and boxy. Trousers and jackets are tailored in a more classic and structured fit to contrast the flowing forms of the dresses. Feathers add to the Art Deco feel of the collection. Blouses made from plain black or patterned sheer, light, flowing materials add movement and femininity to the collection. I created three bespoke surface designs specifically tailored to fit this concept.
This project was in collaboration with Linden Homes who I designed two contrasting interior proposals for. The space I redesigned was the downstairs of their Finchman property which consisted of an open plan kitchen, lounge and dining space. Click on the Residential Design button to view the project.

Art Deco Design 1
Inspired by the symmetrical geometric shapes of the Art Deco period this first design was created as a backsplash tile for the kitchen. Adds a subtle pop of colour while maintaining a bright and airy feel in the space through the use of white in the background. Pairs well with grey cabinetry and gold accents.

Art Deco Design 2
Inspired by the idea of creating a more interesting stripe design, by combing triangular shapes to create columns of diamond motifs. Designing in a rectangular shape allowed me to create a unique design very different from the square one above. Created as a wallpaper design to feature in a living area.

Art Deco Design 3
The last design in this collection is a classic stripe combing all the colours in the scheme to bring a space together, this was designed to be used on roman blinds to add pops of colour within the interior. Since the other two designs were quite bold I wanted to keep the last one simple as to not overwhelm the space.
