Glossier Pop Up Shop

For this project I had to select an overriding design concept, the two options were ‘Hidden Beneath or ‘Viewed Above. I chose to go with ‘Hidden Beneath’ and selected a floral concept which I named ‘Feminine Florals’. I then had to design a Pop-Up shop for any brand of my choice, I selected Glossier, which was no more than 35m2 in total. This meant that I had to get creative with storage solutions and placement of furniture within the space to ensure there was plenty of space for customers to browse the products.

To create a more interesting and unique space I experimented with a lot of different materials to explore different ways of creating bespoke elements. These materials included wood, fabric, paper/card and acrylic among others. I used various manipulation techniques such as sewing, burning, cutting, etching, sewing and folding, these are just a few examples of the things I tested out to create texture and interest within the space. From all this experimentation I selected two materials that would work well in the space and help to portray my concept of ‘Feminine Florals’.

The first material I chose to use was a silky fabric which I cut into various sized petal shapes, then burnt the edges forcing them to curl up and create a more realistic petal shape. I then sewed together layers of petals with smaller ones in the centre to create flower. These flowers were used on the Instagram wall as you enter the space as well as over the entire ceiling of the space.

The second material I selected was a thick 8mm acrylic which I etched my own floral design into. I liked the of the material because I wanted to add some separation from the back section without making the space feel small and too divided. I also wanted customers to be able to see what is going on behind the divider so they would be inclined to take part in testing the products for sale. To make the divider wall feel more organic and less hash in the space I made the edge of it an organic rounded shape which resembles flower petals.
